AMEND PROGRAM

An Educational Program For Men Who Are Abusive

Direct Line: 717-480-0489 - Eric

Group meets every Thursday evening from 6PM-8PM at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church
201 W. Louther Street, Carlilse, PA 17013

AMEND is a 26 session educational program for men who abuse and/or batter their partners or others with whom they have family relationships. The program follows the Duluth “Power and Control” model, one of the first and most widely used programs in the country. Through a variety of methods, including teaching, roleplaying, exercises, and videos, men are invited to examine their use of power and control and the beliefs and attitudes that support it. Additionally, men are given the opportunity to learn alternatives to violence and skills that promote safety, fairness, and equality in their relationships.

The AMEND program is guided by these beliefs:
1. Violence is a learned behavior, not a reaction.
2. Violence is learned; it can be unlearned.
3.There is never a legitimate use of violence in a                  relationship.

Did you know?
AMEND is conducted in a group format, in which the participants learn to be accountable to the group for their actions, and to support each other through the process of change. In addition to the 26 group sessions, there are 4 individual sessions. These include a 2 hour intake session, an orientation session, and two evaluation sessions, one at mid-term and one at completion, to review participants’ progress in group.
Upon acceptance into the program, each participant is asked to sign a group contract, which explains the rules of the group, and what the group facilitators and group members can expect from each other. These rules have to do with such issues as attendance, participation, confidentiality, and safety, and will be explained fully in orientation.
Participants are responsible for payment of a fee, to be determined prior to intake, on a sliding scale basis. Insurance is not accepted, since this is not a treatment program.

The hope is that each man entering the program will participate actively in the process of change and choose the path of non-violence. This process is ongoing, and will continue long after participation in group is ended. For this reason, certificates of completion are not given. Notification to appropriate parties of program exit date will be given.
