Carlisle, PA – December 4, 2019: Domestic Violence Services of Cumberland & Perry Counties (DVSCP) was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Land O’Lakes Foundation. This money will go towards renovations necessary to keep the agency’s Emergency Shelter safe and operable for those seeking refuge from violent homes. Tasks include repairing or replacing 45 shelter windows, as well as repairing and replacing portions of the exterior, which have begun to rot. DVSCP has been fundraising for most of 2019 to raise the more than $100,000 needed to complete the project.
Headquartered in Minnesota, Land O’Lakes, Inc., operates a plant in Carlisle, PA, making it a Cumberland County neighbor of DVSCP. Its Foundation supports organizations involved with arts and culture, education, human services, civic improvements, and youth. The Foundation also awards graduate scholarships to graduate students studying the dairy sciences. Special emphasis is directed toward programs designed to alleviate rural hunger. The agency fell under the human service and civic improvement umbrella, qualifying it for this particular grant.
“This is the first time we’ve applied for a grant through Land O’Lakes and we were overjoyed when learning they selected to fund our project,” commented DVSCP Executive Director Barbara Kohutiak. “We are waiting on a few more funding decisions, but I feel we are in a good place to move forward with the renovations in early 2020.”
